DALLAS — The Seattle Orcas opened their 2026 Major League Cricket campaign with an impressive batting performance, posting 220-2 before falling to the Texas Super Kings by six wickets at Grand Prairie Stadium on Thursday.

Seattle Orcas were led by Tim Seifert and Shayan Jahangir, whose opening partnership provided a strong platform and demonstrated the batting depth within Seattle's lineup.

After being asked to bat first, Seattle made an aggressive start. Jahangir scored 78 runs, combining fluent strokeplay with smart running between the wickets as he helped establish momentum through the Powerplay and middle overs.

Seifert continued the charge with a century, anchoring the innings while maintaining a high scoring rate. His knock featured a range of attacking shots and helped guide Seattle to 220-2 from its 20 overs, one of the franchise's strongest batting performances in Major League Cricket.

The opening partnership between Seifert and Jahangir of 191 runs was the highest in MLC history.

The opening partnership set the tone for an innings that showcased Seattle's intent and ability to score quickly throughout the batting order.

Texas responded with an aggressive chase of its own, capitalizing on favorable batting conditions to reach the target with six wickets in hand. Texas’ successful run chase was led by their captain Faf du Plessis, who was never forced out while hitting for 113. While Seattle's bowlers found breakthroughs during the innings, the Super Kings maintained the required scoring rate and completed the chase in the closing stages.

Despite the result, the opening match provided several encouraging signs for the Orcas. The performances of Seifert and Jahangir highlighted the strength of Seattle's top order, while the team's total of 220 reflected the attacking approach it aims to bring throughout the season.

Seattle returns to the Grand Prairie Stadium on Friday to face Washington Freedom. First ball is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Pacific Time as the Orcas look to build on the positives from their opening performance and secure their first win of the 2026 campaign.
