DALLAS — The Seattle Orcas produced a spirited all-around performance on Friday night, bouncing back from their season-opening defeat with a five-wicket victory over last year’s runner-up Washington Freedom at Grand Prairie Stadium.

After falling just short in a high-scoring opener a day earlier, the Orcas responded with resilience and intent, combining disciplined bowling with an explosive batting display to chase down a challenging target of 217 and earn their first win of the 2026 Major League Cricket season.

Seattle's bowlers laid the foundation for the victory by preventing Washington from fully capitalizing on a strong start. The bowling attack continued to strike at key moments throughout the innings with Ottniel Baartman leading the pack with 4/33 & Dasun Shanaka picking up 3 wickets. The fielding unit also backed up the bowlers with energy and commitment to restrict the Freedom to 216 runs.

Faced with a demanding chase, the Orcas came out attacking from the opening over. Tim Seifert continued his outstanding start to the season, taking the initiative against Washington’s bowling attack and putting Seattle firmly on course. His aggressive knock of 78 set the tone for the innings and provided the momentum Seattle needed.

Matthew Breetzke then made an immediate impact on his Major League Cricket batting debut. The South African batter played with confidence and composure, producing a fluent 66 to keep the chase moving and ensure Seattle remained ahead of the required rate through the middle overs.

Even when Washington threatened to create late pressure with a cluster of wickets, Seattle Orcas remained calm. Dasun Shanaka delivered the finishing touch with a blistering 36* off just 12 balls, striking crucial boundaries and sixes to close out the chase in emphatic fashion and seal the victory with more than two overs to spare.

The win showcased the depth and character within the Seattle squad.
