SEATTLE, WA — April 8, 2026 — The Seattle Orcas today announced the appointment of Sean Cary as Chief Executive Officer, effective April 20, 2026. Cary joins the franchise at a pivotal moment for both the Seattle Orcas and Major League Cricket, as the sport builds toward the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and the Orcas continue investing in women’s cricket, grassroots community development, and team operating excellence.
Cary brings more than 25 years of global sports leadership experience spanning cricket, tennis, Australian Rules Football, and the sporting goods industry. He has held senior executive roles at the United States Tennis Association and Cricket Australia.
At the USTA, Cary led competition operations for the US Open, one of the world’s premier annual sporting events. In that role, he oversaw the integration of broadcast, digital, IT, commercial, and venue operations while helping deliver best-in-class fan experiences. At Cricket Australia, he served as Head of Cricket Operations, working closely with high-performance leaders, state associations, and international boards, and helping lead landmark initiatives including the launch of the Women’s Big Bash League and the first day-night Test match in Adelaide.
Earlier in his career, Cary played first-class cricket for Western Australia, giving him a deep first-hand understanding of elite performance environments and athlete perspectives.
Under Cary’s leadership, the Seattle Orcas will focus on expanding grassroots and community initiatives, growing women’s cricket, and strengthening operational excellence on and off the field.
“As we enter the next chapter for the Seattle Orcas, Sean is the kind of leader we want at the center of it,” said Sanjay Parthasarathy, Co-Owner of the Seattle Orcas. “He brings first-class playing experience, deep operational expertise, and a proven ability to build strong teams and systems. Just as importantly, he shares our belief that the Orcas should be deeply connected to the community — from growing the game at the grassroots level to creating more opportunities in women’s cricket and building experiences that bring fans and families closer to the team.”
“Sean’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for both the Seattle Orcas and Major League Cricket,” said Soma Somasegar, Co-Owner and Board Member of the Seattle Orcas. “We are laser-focused on building a sustainable, high-performing franchise and league and contributing to the long-term growth of cricket in the United States. Sean’s experience managing complex budgets, delivering operational efficiencies, and working with global commercial partners at organizations like the USTA and Cricket Australia will be invaluable as we continue to grow responsibly and ambitiously.”
“Sean brings a global perspective and a strong track record of integrating best practices across markets,” said Kiran Kumar Grandhi, Co-Owner of the Seattle Orcas and Chairman, GMR Sports. “His leadership will help us leverage the broader GMR ecosystem, strengthen high-performance systems, and deliver a world-class experience for players and fans alike.”
“I am thrilled to join the Seattle Orcas at such an exciting moment for cricket in the United States,” said Sean Cary. “From my early days playing first-class cricket in Australia to my roles with Cricket Australia and the USTA, I’ve seen how the right structures, investments, and community connections can transform a sport’s trajectory. I look forward to working with our ownership group, our partners at GMR Sports, and the broader MLC ecosystem to build something special in Seattle — for our players, our fans, and the communities we serve, including through the continued growth of the women’s game.”
As cricket builds toward LA 2028, the Seattle Orcas will continue deepening their presence in the Pacific Northwest through grassroots programming, community partnerships, expanded opportunities in women’s cricket, and a continued commitment to excellence across the club.
