Seattle Orcas fight until the finish in narrow loss to MI New York

POMONA, Calif. — The Seattle Orcas came within one big hit of another memorable win on Thursday night, falling just five runs short against MI New York at the Knight Riders Cricket Ground.
Despite the result, the Seattle Orcas once again showcased their resilience with an outstanding bowling effort followed by a determined chase that kept the outcome in doubt until the final over.
After electing to bowl, Seattle's attack took control from the outset on a surface that offered plenty for the bowlers. Captain Marcus Stoinis led from the front, producing a three-wicket spell that included the key dismissals of Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran and Romario Shepherd. Ottniel Baartman struck early once again, while Jasdeep Singh and Cameron Gannon chipped in with timely breakthroughs to help restrict MI New York to 132 for 8, a competitive effort by the Seattle bowling attack on a surface that favored the bowlers.
Seattle's chase was tested by disciplined bowling from MI New York, but the middle order responded with determination. Stoinis continued his impressive evening by top-scoring with a composed innings that anchored the recovery after early wickets. Shehan Jayasuriya played an important supporting role, while contributions throughout the lineup ensured the Seattle Orcas remained within striking distance heading into the closing overs.
With the required rate climbing, Jasdeep Singh produced a spirited late cameo that nearly turned the contest in Seattle's favor. His aggressive stroke play gave the team a genuine chance deep into the final over before the chase ended just short.
The performance once again highlighted the character within the Seattle squad. The bowling unit continued its impressive run with another disciplined display, while the batting lineup refused to back down despite early setbacks, pushing the defending champions all the way.
Although the result did not go their way, Seattle Orcas left the match with plenty of positives to build on. Strong individual performances, contributions across the lineup and another competitive display reinforced the belief growing within the squad as it continues its push through the 2026 Major League Cricket season. The Seattle Orcas now return to the same venue on Sunday afternoon to face Texas Super Kings.
