Seattle Orcas are thrilled to announce Matthew Mott as our new Head Coach.
An Australian international, Mott joins the team ahead of Major League Cricket Season 3 and will officially take charge after completing his current role as Assistant Coach for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.
Mott brings a wealth of experience and a championship pedigree to Seattle. He previously coached the Australian Women’s National Team to an ODI World Cup title and two T20 World Cup victories between 2015 and 2022. He then took over as England Men’s white-ball coach and immediately made an impact, leading them to a T20 World Cup win in Australia in 2022.
After stepping down from his role with England, Mott turned to T20 leagues, signing a three-year contract with the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League last year. He was also brought on by the Delhi Capitals, as part of their coaching staff for IPL 2025, working alongside Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao.
The 51-year-old had a solid playing career, representing the Australian states of Victoria and Queensland as a top-order batter who could also bowl. He transitioned into coaching soon after retiring, starting with New South Wales in 2007-08. His success there led him to Glamorgan in England, where he continued to make a name for himself. Those achievements launched him onto the international stage, where he has since established himself as one of the best coaches in the game.
“I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Seattle Orcas for the MLC. It’s a fantastic opportunity to be part of a growing competition, and I can’t wait to work with the players, owners, and staff at the Orcas to build towards long-term, sustainable success. I’m looking forward to the challenge and contributing to a successful season both on and off the field,” said Coach Mott.
Welcome Matthew to the Podsquad!
