Two consecutive 200-plus run chases. Two thrilling back-to-back wins. The Seattle Orcas are back! The closing stretch of the Dallas leg in the 2025 Major League Cricket season was nothing short of spectacular, and now, as the league moves to Florida, the Seattle Orcas arrive with a wave of momentum at just the right time.
But the road ahead doesn’t get any easier. Their first test at the Broward County Stadium will be against the table-topping San Francisco Unicorns. With six wins in seven matches and a playoff berth already locked in, the Unicorns are formidable opponents. However, with their season trajectory on the rise, Seattle won’t be an easy target either.
This matchup presents more of an opportunity than a threat. A win would not only strengthen the case for the fourth and final playoff spot but also offer some breathing room in the standings, at least temporarily.
Batters Aim to Keep Red-Hot Form Alive
Seattle’s batters have stunningly flipped the script, powering back-to-back 200+ run chases to breathe life into what looked like a faltering campaign. With a new venue and unfamiliar conditions in Florida, the in-form batters will need to adjust quickly and keep the scoreboard ticking.
All eyes will once again be on Shimron Hetmyer. After delivering two match-winning performances, the southpaw will be key to anchoring the innings. With Heinrich Klaasen still searching for rhythm and Josh Brown yet to make a big impact in MLC this year, fans will be eager to see if veteran David Warner returns to the playing XI for this crucial tie.
Bowlers Hope for Relief in New Conditions
After a punishing run on high-scoring Dallas pitches, Seattle’s bowlers may finally find some respite at a venue traditionally known for being slower and more bowler-friendly. Vice-captain Harmeet Singh starred with the ball in the previous outing and is likely to continue leading from the front in his new role as an opening bowler.
The Seattle Orcas will also look for strong outings from Gerald Coetzee, Obed McCoy, and Jasdeep Singh—all capable of striking with the new ball and at the death. With playoff stakes intensifying, a cohesive effort from the bowling unit could be the difference.
Time to Even the Score with the Unicorns?
The last time Seattle faced San Francisco, they restricted the Unicorns to a chaseable 176 and were cruising at 66/0 before a sudden collapse handed them a heartbreaking defeat. Now, with the stakes even higher, the Men in Green will be determined to set the record straight.
Key to Seattle’s chances will be containing SFU’s explosive openers—Matt Short and Finn Allen—as early as possible and negotiating the threat of Haris Rauf, MLC 2025’s leading wicket-taker.
With momentum on their side, belief in the locker room, and a playoff spot within striking distance, expect the Seattle Orcas to come out firing. It’s time to push for that crucial third win and move to 6 points on the table.
