Seattle Orcas have signed South Africa batter Matthew Breetzke ahead of the 2026 Major League Cricket season, adding another top-order option to their squad as preparations continue.
Breetzke, a wicketkeeper-batter, has represented South Africa at the international level. He brings experience in the T20 format, having scored more than 3,500 runs in over 140 matches. His consistent run-scoring and ability to contribute across different phases of an innings make him a valuable addition to the lineup.
Primarily a top-order batter, Breetzke is known for his approach in the Powerplay, where he looks to capitalize on fielding restrictions and build early momentum. He also has the ability to anchor an innings through the middle overs, offering stability when required.
Breetzke has featured in franchise competitions, including South Africa’s SA20 league, where he scored more than 400 runs in Season 2 (2024). His performances in domestic and franchise cricket highlight his adaptability across conditions and roles.
In addition to his batting, Breetzke provides depth as a wicketkeeping option, giving Seattle additional flexibility in team selection. His dual skillset allows for a range of combinations, strengthening overall squad balance.
The signing adds to Seattle’s batting depth and reinforces the team’s options in the batting order. As their roster construction continues, Breetzke’s experience and versatility are expected to support the team’s efforts to build a competitive squad for the 2026 season.
