SEATTLE, WA — June 9, 2025 — The Seattle Orcas are thrilled to confirm that Heinrich Klaasen will continue as team captain for the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season. Joining him in the leadership group is Seattle favorite Harmeet Singh, USA’s premier spin-bowling all-rounder, who has been appointed vice-captain ahead of Season 3.
A dynamic wicketkeeper-batter known for his explosive middle-order power and sharp cricketing instincts, Klaasen brings a wealth of international and franchise experience to the role. With a proven track record across global T20 leagues and a fiercely competitive mindset, Klaasen embodies the aggressive and fearless brand of cricket the Seattle Orcas aspire to play. As the team looks to bounce back from last season, Klaasen’s leadership will be pivotal in guiding a talented squad toward a deeper playoff run.
Harmeet Singh’s appointment as vice-captain reflects his growing influence within the team and his deep understanding of the American cricketing landscape. A vital part of our core over the past two seasons, Harmeet’s versatility and leadership qualities make him a natural fit to support Klaasen.
"We're excited to have Klaasie back at the helm," said Venugopal Rao, General Manager of Cricket Operations. “He’s a natural leader with a fierce will to win and has consistently delivered — both individually and as part of successful teams — in some of the world’s most competitive T20 leagues. His presence lifts the entire squad, especially the younger players. And with Harmeet stepping in as his deputy, we have a leadership duo that blends international pedigree with local insight — a combination that can truly elevate this team.”
Klaasen has played almost 250 T20 matches globally and has been a standout in leagues such as the IPL, SA20, and The Hundred. In the inaugural SA20 season, he amassed over 400 runs at a blistering strike rate of 175+. He has also captained South Africa in T20 internationals, bringing composure and tactical intelligence to the role. Most recently, in the 2025 IPL, Klaasen delivered a memorable century in his final outing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, winning the match almost single-handedly and carrying that red-hot form into the MLC season.
“It’s an honor to lead the Seattle Orcas,” said Klaasen. “I’ve watched the rise of MLC closely, and I’m incredibly proud to be a part of this journey. We’ve got a fantastic group of players, passionate fans, and big ambitions — I can’t wait to help turn things around this season.”
“It’s a privilege to be named vice-captain of the Orcas,” said Harmeet. “We’ve got a great mix of experience and emerging talent — I’m looking forward to backing Klaasie and doing everything I can to help this team lift the trophy.”
With their valuable experience in T20 cricket, their consistency, commitment, and deep knowledge of the Seattle Orcas setup — now entering their third straight season with the franchise — ensure they are well-positioned to lead. With a clear sense of purpose and a strong leadership foundation, the Seattle Orcas are ready to write a new chapter in MLC Season 3.
Klaasen summed it up best: “With the talent we’ve got and the energy around this team, I truly believe we can do something special this year.”
